WE ARE LOOKING FOR POPLAR GROVES
TO GROW AND MANAGE

THE POPLAR CYCLE

PLANTING

Every year we plant 15,000 new certified poplar trees from selected growers.

4 YEARS

The main processes, such as pruning and fertilisation, take place in the first years of planting, until 4 years of age. By then, the trees reach an average height of 12 meters
In the following years, up to the end of the cycle, we take care of the plants, controlling and respecting them, and intervening only when needed.

FELLING

After 10 years, the trees have reached their ideal maturity, with an average height of 25 meters and an average circumference of 115 centimetres.

LOGS

The logs of the felled trees are peeled and turned into Panguaneta plywood panels, which, in turn, are used for new products in various sectors, such as furniture, construction, automotive, nautical, recreational vehicles, furniture and design, do-it-yourself, and much more

PLYWOOD, BY-PRODUCTS AND END-OF-LIFE

The part of the log intended for peeling and the production of plywood accounts for 60% of the tree, the rest is represented by twigs and wood chips that are used for the production of paper or energy from renewable sources.
Moreover, the plant processing residues, such as rounds, are used by packaging manufacturers. Nothing is wasted; plywood - the niche poplar product - has a very long life lasting about 50 years, and is turned into other panels such as chipboard, MDFs or OSBs and, eventually, non-fossil fuel.

CARBON SINK - CO2 STORAGE

Thanks to the constant replacement of the felled plants with new ones, the farm absorbs each year about 12,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, which corresponds to a total net storage of CO2 throughout the whole cycle equal to 120,000 tons, thus partially offsetting the emissions deriving from human activities (civil heating, road traffic, productive activities ...) of the local community. Moreover, this important function does not end when the plants are cut down: the storage of CO2 continues throughout the life of the plywood panels as well as in the end products into which they are turned.
